Sharks At The Lake - June 15-17, 2007 |
Big thanks to Tim and Cheryl Dey, Directional Media Services and other sponsors as well as Cal Neva Resort for putting on this fun event. Due to a hectic work schedule getting a team 12-1/2 time zones away up to speed, moving my home, and all the little stuff that comes along with trying to shoehorn your stuff into a smaller place, I had missed most events and fun runs over the previous year except SITP '07. I took some time to shine up the shark with a quick swipe of Rejex: Almost need shades to look at it... Even makes the wheels look great, and significantly reduces brake dust buildup. When I arrived there were already a couple of sharks around, including Louie Ott's monster. Note the steam roller tires under his custom flares, heat exchanger in the exhaust cutout, and of course custom exhaust. He has mounted individual throttle bodies under his custom carbon fiber intake, with a MAP engine control system. It's a work of art. Here's a better look at the intake, showing off the CF V-stacks, one-off cross brace and fuel distribution system. Also note the blank plates in place of the distributors. Another angle, showing off his throttle linkage mount and relocated oil cap. Wandering back up from the patio where hors' dourves were being served, I found a lot more sharks... ...and an impromptu tech session underway. After the reception folks went their own way to group up and find dinner. Here are the sharks snoozing quietly and safely out in front of the resort upon our return from dinner. Saturday came clear and bright, and we were on the road early for a fun run... Here was our first stop on the run... not so much a "vista point" as a nice place to park and stretch our legs. We spent a few minutes standing around BSing... Ogling Stan's pearl paint job... Here's Tim's 200mph "Beast"... I'n not sure if he had an "Official" 200mph run at the time the pic was taken, but IIRC he was very close. It looks fast standing still, and there is no mistaking the smell of race gas when you get behind him. After a few minutes we were on the road again... Miles and miles of amazing scenery. We stopped at a nice little restaurant tucked back in the mountains North of Tahoe -- I'll try to dig up the town & restaurant name... Great food though. Left to right -- Ron S., Tim Dey, Debbie S., Cheryl Dey & Stan. Left to right -- Sara, Debra. Not sure of all the names here... Left to right -- Stan, Cheryl Dey, Mrs. Mickleson(?), Bill Swift in the sunglasses, Joe(?) in the blue shirt, Eric Mickleson in the black shirt and Joe's son. Only names I'm sure of are Brian(IcemanG17, left), Steve Bondi(OC t-shirt) and Charley B on the other side of Steve; I don't recall the name Steve's daughter. Nice view of Louie Ott's car. Gorgeous. On the Sunday drive around the lake to Alpine Meadows, I started getting a brake warning light. At the couple of quick stops on the trip around the lake I checked my brake fluid level and the wiring to the brake sensors, checked for leaking fluid, and found all seemingly OK and the brakes still working perfectly. I decided to peel off for home rather than have lunch at Tim & Cheryl's place. If anything went wrong I wanted the extra time as a buffer in case I needed a tow or encountered other delays due to the issue. It took me a few days to go through the steps of troubleshooting that problem but I eventually replaced the master cylinder. Oh, and I promised myself I wouldn't miss lunch at the next SATL. Thanks again Cherly and Tim! |
