Pod Removal and Troubleshooting (on an '85 928) page 3

There are several reasons you might want to remove your dash pod.  These include:

I've had all of these problems with my gauge package and I hope these pictures and description of my experience will help someone out.

Good luck!

Pod Removal

Tools required:
5mm allen ball socket
10mm socket w’extension
phillips screwdriver
27mm socket (or 1 1/16”)
light

DISCONNECT BATTERY.  Make sure key is not in switch.  I did this several times without pulling the battery, but if you end up shorting something you’re sunk, so this way is safer.
1. Grasp horn firmly from both sides and pull toward you.  The horn wire is plugged into the back, so don’t pull it away more than 2” or so.  Tilt it forward and unplug the horn wire plug.  Set horn aside.

2. Using 27mm (or 1 1/16”) socket, loosen the bolt holding the steering wheel in.
3. Before you remove the nut completely, wiggle the steering wheel to get it to come forward just a bit, until it’s up against the 27mm nut.  Then you can remove the nut, spring washer and steering wheel (If you wait until the nut is off, then pull on the wheel you may hit yourself in the face when it breaks loose.  No really)
4. Next pull down the lever that adjusts the tilt-steering, and remove the two phillips head screws from each end of the long plate that goes from one end of the pod to the other on the bottom. Remove the plate (slide if forward, there are plastic runners that keep it from being pulled straight down).
