Pod Removal and Troubleshooting (on an '85 928)
Clean contacts
One thing that surprised me when I got
inside the gauge package was the number of simple mechanical
connections. I live on the Jersey Shore and we have a problem
with corrosion in cases like this, so I have to be extra diligent about
cleaning these up or wherever possible replacing them with solder
connections.
For the most part I just removed and cleaned up the contacts with a rag
or for the brass nuts, I used fine sandpaper to get a clean metal
surface. Then I put it together using dialectric grease.
Here are some of the things you'll find in there:
Also, the bulbs work the same way, the metal just makes contact with an
exposed part of the ribbon 'board' so you'll want to clean these all up
as well.
