Pod Removal and Troubleshooting (on an '85 928) page 2

5. Remove the two 10mm hex-head bolts that you can now see under the front of the pod holding the plastic piece where the wheel used to be.  Remove the plastic cover as well.
edit: From Marton on Rennlist about his '82: As well as the 2 10mm bolts I had a philips head screw.
6. Now if you look up underneath (by laying on your back, I know…) you’ll see a 5mm allen bolt on each end of the pod.  One is right next to the keyswitch, the other is up higher, but easy to see closer to the driver door.  Remove both of those completely to release the pod from the dash.
edit: From Marton on Rennlist about his '82:I had a 10mm bolt on the drivers side, not allan head

Driver's side (laying on your back)                                                                                Passenger side (connected to keyswitch)

NOTE: Step 7 is optional, you can work with the wiper/directional/cruise stalk assembly in place, but I found it easier to work with it out.

7. One more thing holding it in, you should try to wiggle the windshield wiper/cruise/directional stalk assembly toward you.  It should unplug from the large plug on the PS.  If the plug is holding it in, try prying it off.  You shouldn’t have to unplug the driver’s side, but I don’t think that would be a problem.  Now slide it toward you and over the end of the steering column.  Let it hang down.

8. You should be able to wiggle the pod around a bit now.  You’ll have to pull it toward you a bit and up to clear the ignition keyswitch, but don’t pull it away from the dash yet!  You have to unplug the three plugs on the back of the console from the wire leads.  There is one behind the driver’s side that you can see if you stand up and look down behind the pod through the windshield, the other two are on the passenger side, one horizontal and one vertical. To unplug these, you have to pry the plastic levers on the back of the plugs APART while pulling gently on the plug.  It should be easy, don’t force anything.  When the levers are moved, the plug works its way loose.  Do this for all three.

NOTE: In Pre-85 cars, these plugs just pull off and don't have the levers that latch into place, so be careful removing and replacing these as you won't get that 'click'
