How To Take the motor apart and put it back together in a couple of weeks between track events.

(Created Feb 16, 2003)

I went to Watkin's Glen for 4 days ending on the July 3rd, 2001. The new motor ran great but it had some leaks. My friend Dick said it might be leaking behind the oil cooler. To fix that leak I needed to tear the motor down to the bare case so it could be welded. It turned out that it didn't leak in that spot after all but I was able to fix the other leaks while I had it apart. The leaks were caused by improper sealant technique for the case halves. Too much sealant and not tightening the perimeter bolts down quickly after assembling the case. Ironically, this wasn't a problem the 2nd time because I was in a hurry. I was in a rush because I needed to leave on the 19th for my next event at Mt Tremblant!

July 4th weekend: Zone 1 Event at Watkin's Glen, new 3.4L twin plug motor wails but leaks some.

July 9th: Tear motor down. Note the neat piston wrist pin removal tool my friends and I came up with.

July 13: Engine is down to bare case halves:

July15: Pistons and some cylinders are back on:

July 20: This was picture taken part way up Mont Tremblant. My motor blew up in the morning so we went hiking.
