This picture and the next four were taken Sunday Jan 21st, 2001. It was late in the afternoon and early evening. The whole day was very cloudy. There was some sun that came through the thick clouds, but it was not enough. The scenary was at my local clubhouse's in Lake Forest, California. I've been taken pictures of all my Porsches at this same parking lot for the last four years. Interested? There is something about the lake.
I joined the local Orange Coast Region (OCR), of the Porsche Club of America in April 1999. Although I have been owning Porsche two years prior to that. Since mid 2000, I volunteered to handle the maintenance tasks of the OCR's website. I became OCR's webmaster. I thought it would be fun to support the club by putting up a windshield banner on my own car. In this way, everytime I drive around town there are lots of chances that other Porsche drivers might see it and join the club. The more members the club has the better. I don't like stickers/graphics in general and yet my other car has some also.
This is my third Porsche 911 in about four years. The first was a Guards Red '78 911SC with '94 Turbo S Look. The second was '97 993 Carrera S, which was in an accident with just 127xx miles on the speedometer. It was totaled. And, now this Zermatt Silver '92 C2 Turbo. Of all of these cars, I like this one the most. There is something about the word "Turbo" that commands respect from almost everyone I've talked to. It is an older car compares to the C2S but I've gotten more looks and thumb ups from motorists.
If I knew how great the Turbo is, I would have gotten one a long time ago; although I would not have able to afford one. The Turbo has lag and especially the older ones, not only the Turbos from Porsche but all of Turbos in general. It's just a matter of getting used to the driving style and anticipate the need for full boost, which is just over 4000rpm. It is not so much difference in driving my '94 Acura Integra GSR. This car has very little torque until the rpm reaches 4800 revs and continues to its 8200rpm redline (8600rpm Dinan modified).
The amount of torque, 332 lb/ft, of the Turbo is enough to push you deep into the seat's back. Zero to sixty mph in 4.8sec. From a standing start and going through the first four gears quickly and close to redline and you will scare yourself sh#tless or you will be jailed for tripple digit speeds. A Valetine 1 radar/lazer dector is almost a necessary accessory item if you drive fast all the time. I have one but I don't drive fast much, at least not anymore. I just enjoy the Turbo on short burst of speeds. More text/pics on next page.
