Real Time Operating Systems
RTLinux™ is a hard real-time operating system that
handles time-critical tasks and runs Linux as its lowest priority
execution thread. In RTLinux, a small hard-realtime kernel shares
one or more processors with standard Linux. This allows the system
to run accurately timed applications to perform data acquisition,
systems control and robotics, while still serving as a standard Linux
workstation. - from the www.rtlinux.org
home page.
We will use the RTOS in different hardware integration pieces of the system.
Such as in the use of the analog to digital conversions, different critcal
sensor networks for vision and road positioning systems. This systems
may be tied to safety devices where a real time return of service is a
high level of importance.
