The accident

In 1996 I was heading down the A31 in the Emsland area. This autobahn is also called "Friesenspieß".
Basically it's a long straight. The autobahn is new and there was nearly no traffic at this time...
After running 210km/h (130mph) steadily for 10 minutes suddenly a horrible noise appeared.
Sounded like a rim has direct contact with the concrete. The car still continued its straight line.

Then I stepped onto the brake. The car started to turn towards the middle barrier. I crossed the left lane
and saw a concrete bridge pillar in front of me. I only thought: "What a pity!". Didn't expect my life to be
so short. Somehow I wasn't able to change the car's direction.

I was lucky. I survived. No injuries. Not even a shock.

Came from here:                                Heading this direction:

The reason for that accident? The previous owner whom I don't want to blame had put 2 new
back tires on the car. They were refurbished winter tires and S-rated (180km/h, 112mph),
probably the cheapest tires he got that were "new". The new profile which was stuck to the
inner part of the tire, was heated up by the speed and finally left. The tire had still pressure but
after the "disassembly" the tire was smaller and had no ground contact anymore. The remaining
tire must have created that horrible noise.

Now I believe I know a lot about tires and about Porsche specified (Nx) tires.....

Have a look at the driver.   Feedback
