Utica Autocross Event
September 17th, 2000
Bennett Go-Kart Track
Utica, Illinois
Hosted by:  Porsche Club of America, Chicago Chapter

My girlfriend Amy and I decided to make a weekend of this event and spent Saturday hiking in nearby Starved Rock State Park.  I’d highly recommend Landers House, the B&B we stayed at, to anyone heading down this way.

What a course!  The autocross was set up on a competition go-kart track.  Unfortunately, the track is being torn down this fall, so the PCA is losing a gem.  The course was a tight, twisty ribbon of asphalt with several chicanes.  The only thing that could damage your car was the pit wall, but that was after the finish anyhow.

There were a decent number of spins, half of which seemed to involve some crazy guy in a Mustang.  My personal favorite had to be the Golf belonging to Mike from RacingOne.Com.  I don’t think he had four wheels down on the ground the entire time.

Speaking of time, mine were disappointing.  I couldn’t seem to get under a minute.  With the exception of one run which I absolutely chunked, my times were between 1:00.300 and 1:00.700.  Consistent, yes.  Great, not really.

Watch out for that wall!

Ack!  The dreaded S-turn/180.  This corner seemed to be everyone's downfall.
Check out this 993!
The same 993 in Turn 6.  Dig that color!

Greg in Turn 1.  I can't believe he snagged 312 as a permanent number!

The lone BMW.  I don't like the Z3, but these M Roadsters are wonderful machines!

Me at the finish.  This is the only place with things to hit!
