Garage Mahal:
Round Four - So It Begins Again

June 3, 2006:
Shortly after completing my lighting project last June(Garage-Mahal Round 3), circumstances led to a move into a much nicer house. Unfortunately the garage was a bit smaller, but I could make do.

Once our lease was in its last month we began to look for another place. We looked for months before settling on this place -- many of the homes available for rent were either run down, too small, no street parking, etc. This place has a somewhat smaller garage, but we can stay as long as needed while we move toward building our own home over the next few years.

Below are some views of the garage as I found it on June 3, 16 days before the move. Over the next couple of weeks I was busy with many projects, everything from packing the old place to cleaning, painting, laying carpet in the new place -- and especially, knocking down those ugly blue shelves, painting the awful yellow and green walls, and beginning to make room for my stuff.

Over time, this will evolve into Garage Mahal 2.0. I discovered during the mid-July heat wave that the backside of the roof, between the garage rafters, registers up to 140°F on my IR thermometer -- so one of the first projects will be installing radiant barrier insulation there and on the garage door, followed closely by hanging my fluorescent lights -- even if I don't get them wired right away, they need to be moved from the front porch before something bad happens to them. Stay tuned for updates...
