Sharks in the Park - May 8, 2004

These are just the raw pictures that I took at the event. It was a fantastic time, good food, great company, lovely sharks.

Big, big thanks to Bill Ball and Northern California Porsche 928 Owners Group

Also big thanks to George Suennen for doing a much more thorough job than I of documenting the event with photos.

Finding the venue was pretty interesting in and of itself. Whover is responsible for street signs in Berkeley seems to have done a very haphazard job of putting up street signs, so you really have to pay attention. Many times I found myself at an intersection unable to figure out the name of the cross-street. Eventually I figured it out though, and made it to the event.

So, here is the first pic I took upon arrival. That's Mike Monson in the shorts, and that's his blue shark in the middle of the frame. Mike is a great guy, and was nice enough to let me ride shotgun on the group drive. My tires were too sketchy for the sort of driving that I expected, so my shark had to sit this one out.

This is one small example of parking issues. All of the people who participated in the event were very nice, easygoing people. However, my impression of the various other people driving, jogging, and biking through was that they were very snotty, acting as if it were a criminal act to try to park your car if you happened to be in the way when they came whizzing out of nowhere. My response? Screw 'em, we're having fun.

Here is a peek under the hood at George's SC setup. Looks like a very clean install.

Here is a peek at George's cockpit, with boost & A/F ratio gauges and GPS.

Richard's car from Monterey (blau928). I thought maybe it was going to be used for a paintless dent repair session, so I snapped a "before" pic. Turns out there was no "after".

Here are a couple of examples of wheels that people were ooohing and aaahhing over... The first belongs to Tim and Cheryl Dey from Lake Tahoe(Tahoe Shark) and the second belongs to Guy.

And a couple of pics of lunch preparations.

There were a number of raffle prizes.... great stuff, including hats, Devek short-shifters, Detailing kits, etc. Also, this very odd little model donated by Nicole. She says it was a Panamericana design study, and she will soon have more available at Hooked on Cars. Sorry about the fuzziness, between me moving around and Bill moving around this was the best I could do.

As we all wandered back toward the cars to get ready for the drive, I took another snapshot. I'm not sure of the origins of the body kit on the 5th vehicle down the line. It doesn't look very aerodynamic, but I bet the red and blue stripes add enough HP to offset that.

I tried to make a joke about this flat-six intake being some kind of special 928 exhaust on the SITP thread in the forum, but nobody bit. Oh, well.

And they're off! One of the rare moments on the drive when I didn't have to hang on...

We made a couple of photo-op-stops; This is Bill Ball and Nicole Mossinger at the first stop.

And here are the cars... George pulled up to the front so that he could get shots of all of the cars pulling away. Beth looks on from the other side of the road. It looks like somebody is running an arc welder on the 9th car back...

Arc welder still going...

What the heck is he trying to weld on there? Oh, here comes the Neon that we quickly caught up to. The driver insisted on being in the way for quite some time... oh well. Cars belong to(left to right) George Suennen, Bill Ball, Constantin(Shmurzik), Mike Monson, Beth(I think), unknown, Guy, and I'm not sure about the rest. Hopefully I can fill these in over time.

In this pic, left to right, there's Beth, (Don't remember), Beth's boyfriend Rich, Nicole Mossinger, Bill Ball, George Suennen, and Dennis K.
