Big Basin Drive & Canepa Tour - Sept 8, 2007

Bill Ball and Jim Morton set up this drive through some of the twistier sections of the Santa Cruz mountains, via Big Basin and the Empire Grade to Bonny Doon and down the coast to Canepa Designs in Scott's Valley for a tour.

I lost about 40 of the photos I took that day, due to a problem that my camera exhibits when it fills up. It writes to 3" CD-R disks, and when it gets too full it doesn't have room to write out the directory structure or finalize the disc. My fault, I was too excited about getting pics of all the wonderful cars at Canepa and didn't pay attention. You'll see why soon. The corrupted disc sat in a kind of limbo ever since; I made a few attempts to recover it to no avail. Then, in the process of doing this massive Dec '08/Jan '09 website update, I spent a bit more time on it since I am changing the menu generator script on the site with this update, and it's a hassle to insert items later. The software that finally recovered what data was recoverable was a product called CD Roller. I have no affiliation with the seller of the product, I'm just a satisfied customer. Apparently it works on any CD-R, especially when you have a multisession CD with problems, DVD-RAM drives, etc.

Below is a high-level route map:

Here is a close-up of the tight sections, showing just how twisty the road is:

We stopped for a breather in Big Basin Redwoods State Park... (Dennis Kao foreground, L-R standing: Charley B, Steve B, Angelo - not sure of the green shark owner's name)

Stood around, stretched our Legs... (L-R Jim Morton, Steve Bondi, unidentified, Dennis K. again)

A tree with some history... I hope they didn't have to kill it to find out how old it was...

Again, Big thanks to Bill Ball, NorCal 928 & Jim Morton for putting on this fun event. I'm looking forward to next year!
