The Body Building Program

UPDATED 12/24/2001

The first order of business was to update the rear fenders with SC flares. The flares are metal, cut out from an SC parts car. To match the flares to the 911S body also required the addition of SC rocker panels and fender extensions.

After a test fit, the old fenders were cut out to accommodate the new pieces. A weld channel was formed into the new parts and they were attached and smoothed to a perfect fit.

A look at the new rear profile shows the new more muscular look of the SC. Note that the rear wheels will require spacers to fill the new fender profile.

Now it’s time to strip the body for paint. The entire body will be chemically stripped and smoothed to prepare for epoxy filler/primer.

A test patch on the front fender reveals that the original repaint was indeed a bare metal job. The underlying galvanized metal is in very good condition throughout.

The rest of the body is chemically stripped clean and prepared for epoxy sealer.

The first coats of epoxy filler and sealer are applied and block sanded. There will be three coats applied and smoothed to created a uniform surface for the primer and paint to follow.

Finally, we are beginning to apply color. Two coats of epoxy sealer/filler where applied as marker coats and sanded prior to application of three coats of hand-sanded primer and a final coat which was wet-sanded. After a final wash, the first coat of black is applied.
