Georgia Mountain Drive

October 28, 2000

It was fantastic!!

By Saturday morning there were 170 cars registered!!!  Too bad not everyone showed up…

The Porsche and Audi groups teamed up and after a horrendous time in the Atlanta traffic we finally made it to Dahlonega.  The scenery was beautiful and the trees were in full color.  Unfortunately lots of other people (with excruciatingly slow vehicles) were out gazing too.

Luckily the road cleared just as the curves started.  We headed for the top of Brasstown Bald Mountain, the highest elevation in Georgia (4784 ft.).  Whew – those engines warmed up!  The “S” curves just kept coming – one after another after another for miles.

I chased four silver Audi A4’s.  The car in front of me was an Audi S4.  These cars loved the S’s.  I understand another group’s VW Corrado lost its grip and rolled over the side into a ravine… L

Once at the top everyone popped their hoods/bonnets/boots/glass and let the engines cool.  We also had vaccumed up a lot of leaves.

We spent a good hour or so gawking and visiting and making pictures.  What a terrific group of cars and people!
