As you can imagine, since Porsche has now issued this recall, they recognize the seriousness of the situation.  If your car has any chance of being affected with a bad harness, the results could be a catastophic fire in the car.  Please take this seriously and take your car to the dealer to have it checked out.  If the dealer gives you a problem, bring a printed copy of the TSB.

I now have the actual Technical Bulletins from PCNA - links are below.  Everything you need to know about the recall is contained in the first 10 pages of each TSB.  Please view the correct one to further understand the recall.  Here are the specifics of the recall:
1995 Non Turbo cars with the following VIN numbers MAY be affected:
WPOAA299XSS320061 to WPOAA2998SS324139 U.S. Coupe              WPOAA2997SS340065 to WPOCA2990SS343718 U.S. Cabriolet
WPOAA2993SS320158 to WPOAA2990SS324104 Canada Coupe          WPOCA2990SS340389 to WPOCA2990SS343535 Canada Cab.

1996 Non Turbo cars with the following VIN numbers MAY be affected:

WPODA2990TS385063 to WPODA2990TS385273 U.S. Targa           WPOAA299XTS320143 to WPOAA2991TS321620 Canada Coupe
WPOCA2999TS340120 to WPOCA2993TS341098 Canada Cab.     WPODA299XTS385068 to WPODA2994TS385244 Canada Targa

1996 Turbo cars with the following VIN numbers MAY be affected:
WPOAC2992TS375065 to WPOAC2992TS375924 U.S. Turbo            WPOAC2996TS375067 to WPOAC299XTS375895 Canada Turbo

If you have checked the part number of your harness as per my directions on the other harness pages on this site, then this may become a point of contention.  I quote from the TSB:  "The part number is affixed to the wiring harness in the relay carrier in the engine compartment.  If one of the folowing part numbers has been printed on the wiring harness or if the part numbers can no longer be read, the wiring harness must be replaced": 993.607.016.00          993.607.016.01           993.607.016.04           993.607.016.05           993.607.016.06           993.607.016.07          993.607.016.08           993.607.016.10          993.607.016.80   The problem is that some of us who have already replaced harnesses have part numbers that end in .05  I am not sure what the outcome of that will ultimately be.  When I hear something, I will change this.  The following part number is the part specified by the TSB: 993.607.016.15   Below are links to the actual TSB documents in .PDF format.  You should download them for more information.  As always, you can email me with questions.  gelb993@feulner.us

Update 12-11-02: I now have the Supplement from PCNA including the dates of the affected harnesses and the cut off date for replacement from the part number sticker.  It is 05.01.1996.  This means that if your harness has a date later than this, you will not need to have it replaced.  Note from the file that is is the label for the "DATUM" line rather than the "ZEICH DAT" line.  Click on the link to the right to see the supplement and for more information.
