THIS PAGE SHOWS HOW TO INSTALL A HARNESS BAR AND A HARNESS IN A PORSCHE 993 WITH STOCK SEATS IN PREPARATION FOR TRACK EVENTS
STEP 1 about 5 minutes
Remove the two 17 mm bolts attaching the seatbelt anchor to the B pillar.  Place the harness bar (Brey Krause) in position over the holes and reinstall the bolts and stock belts.  These bolts are what attaches the harness bar to the car.  By keeping the shoulder belt attached, you can use the stock belts on the way to and from the track.
STEP 2 two minutes
First you must replace the 17 mm bolts that hold the rear seat belt points in place with an eye bolt that directly replaces the bolt.  It is the same thread pattern so no drilling is required.  Once the eye bolt is in place, I leave it installed.  No one wants to ride in the back anyway.  Then use the 'snap in' connector for the belt and just snap it in to the eye bolt.  The first time you will need to spend some additional time adjusting the belts, but once adjusted properly, you will never need to adjust them again.
STEP 3
This is what the compleated shoulder harness section looks like installed in the car.  Make sure the cross strap ("H") is behind the bar because otherwise the "H" strap will tighten against the seat when you pull the shoulder harness tight.
This is the inboard lap belt piece that also clips in, this time to a Brey Krause Tunnel mount piece.  The first time, I needed to attach this Brey Krause piece to the stock belt anchor by removing the seat and the 17mm bolt holding the plastic seat belt receiver.  The Brey Krause piece is placed behind the receiver and bolted back into the seat.  Once this piece is installed, you will not need to remove the seat again as the belt just snaps into the Brey Krause part.  This piece does not interfear with the normal operation of the stock seat belt during non harness use.  Also, on the outboard side next to the door, I have already replaced the bolt that anchors the stock belt at the bottom with another eye bolt like in step 1.  This way, the other half of the lap belt also snaps in.
STEP 4   5 minutes
STEP 5   five minutes
While the seat is removed in step 4 above, place two 'bolt in' sub belt ends under the seat rails and line up the holes.  Then bolt the seat down like normal.  Note that with a stock inteior and seats, it is necessary to use the 6 point sub belt - there is no way to mount just one sub belt in the center.  These two metal ends will stay in the car, but the belt can be easily removed and installed as needed. Once the belts are adjusted properly with someone sitting in the car, use a sharpie marking pen to draw a line on the belt where the adjusting piece sits on the belt on both the front and back.  This way, you will always be able to get the sub belt installed in the correct location.  You can see the marks on the unattached strap in the background.  In order to properly adjust the sub belt, it is important to be sitting with all the belts as tight as when you will use them on the track.  Remember that the pupose of the sub belt is to keep the lap belt from riding up when the shoulder belts are tightened.  The tighter you can make the sub belt the better off you will be.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SUB BELTS:  THEY ARE NOT USED TO KEEP THE BODY FROM SLIDING UNDER THE HARNESS IN CASE OF A COLLISION.  IF THAT WERE THE CASE, THEN NHTSA WOULD MANDATE THAT ALL OUR STREET CARS NEED TO HAVE THEM.  THE PURPOSE OF A SUB BELT (5 or 6 point) IS TO KEEP THE LAP BELT SECTION LOW ACROSS THE HIPS WHEN WE TIGHTEN THE SHOULDER HARNESS.  WITHOUT THE SUB BELT, AS YOU TIGHTEN THE SHOULDER HARNESS THE LAP BELT WOULD PULL UP ACROSS OUR STOMACH AND SOFT MID SECTION.  IN CASE OF A HARD IMPACT, ALL OUR WEIGHT WOULD THEN BE THROWN AGAINST OUR SOFT ORGANS AND SCRAMBLE THEM LIKE YOUR BREAKFAST EGGS.  THIS IS WHAT KILLED JOCHEN RINDT.  THEN WITH THE LAP BELT RIDING HIGH, YOU COULD SLIDE UNDER IT.  THIS IS WHERE PEOPLE GET THE IDEA THAT THE SUB BELT IS TO KEEP YOU FROM SLIDING UNDER.  WITH THE LAP BELT POSITIONED CORRECTLY ACROSS YOUR HIPS AND THE SUB BELT HOLDING IT TIGHT, THERE IS NO CHANCE OF SLIDING UNDER.  THIS IS WHY THE SUB BELT IS NOT ADJUSTABLE LIKE THE OTHER STRAPS.  ONCE YOU GET IT ADJUSTED CORRECTLY, IT WILL NOT NEED TO BE CHANGED.  NOW AS YOU PULL TIGHT ON THE SHOULDER HARNESS THE LAP BELT WILL PULL TIGHT AGAINST THE SUB BELT AND STAY IN PLACE ACROSS YOUR HIPS.  THE INITIAL SUB BELT ADJUSTMENT SHOULD LEAVE THE CLIP JUST ABLE TO REACH THE HARNESS LOCKING MECHANISM WHEN THE LAP BELTS ARE LOOSE.  IT WILL TIGHTEN DOWN AS THE OTHER BELTS ARE PULLED TIGHT.
COMPLETED HARNESS INSTALL
This is what the compleated harness installation looks like.  Note that I only have to remove the seat the first time to install the tunnel side bracket and the sub belt mounts.  This can be time consuming and please make sure you use an allen bolt driver on your socket wrench.  Otherwise you will strip out the seat mount bolts and even if you don't it takes forever that way.  Once these two pieces have been mounted, you will not need to remove the seat again.  Also, you might cuss and yell trying to adjust the belts the first time - especially the shoulder belts and the sub belts because you need to keep sitting in the seat and tighning everything down and then getting up and adjusting again over and over till it is right.  Please remember that this only needs to be done once.  Once everything is installed and adjusted, it is only a matter of minutes to install the harnesses and bar.  It is worth taking the extra time to do it right the first time.
