Forward Shift Ball Cup Mod

This one didn't start out to be a mod.  I ordered the shift ball bushing, but it turned out to be the one for the rear shift coupling.  It's made of rubber instead of plastic and the diameter is too large to fit the old shift ball cup.

I ended up machining it down on the drill press for the OD, but the ID is still really tight.  It's supposed to pivot, but it's wedged in pretty tight.

Interestingly enough, I like it.  The shifting is MUCH tighter, in fact you really need to pull it over to get it into 1/R, but from 1-2 it's almost straight up and tight, then 2-3 it seem straight down, 3-4 is the slightest push, and 4-5 is nice and tight too.

I don't know how it's going to be when it gets really cold, it might even be better because the rubber will be more brittle, but I'm starting to like it already and it's a HUGE improvement over the way it was.

Here's how I did it:

Pulled the exhaust:

The old one was beat:

I used a 1/2" bolt and nut, in the chuck of my drill press.  Took it down to 13/16" diameter using a few emery boards.

After machining:

Slides right into existing cup (a little blurry, sorry)

Finish up with a 1" cargo strap over cup and around TT, then lever under the strap against TT.

Finished product is REALLY tight, but I like it!
