Internet http://www.rennlist.org ( was porschelist ) This site has over 34,000 registered users, mostly US, almost all Porsche owners, including 2630 968 owners. The 968 pinion bearings problem has appeared periodically in the 944/968 and 'general' discussion pages during past two years. This site is dedicated to the 968 model and has 332 registered owners in 18 countries, and probably many more just visiting. The pinion bearing problem has been a source of great concern and has its own discussion page. In a poll 95% respondents confirmed that they hold Porsche responsible for the manufacturing fault, even though the warranty has in most cases expired. http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/porsche968 Again, this problem has been discussed on this site. http://members.rennlist.org/martin and a mirror site http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/porsche/968/ are dedicated to this issue, collating all the available information. Usenet Newsgroups alt.autos.porsche alt.autos.porsche.944 These are public newsgroups. Its impossible to tell how many people read them, but there are 300-400 'posts' every week. Again the pinion bearing issue has been repeatedly debated in the last two years. TV The Watchdog consumer program on BBC TV has asked for full details of the problem. Due to low No. of ( known ) UK owners affected it has so far not featured it. This may change as more cases come to light. The We can work it out ITV show (UK) has also been given overview of the problem and may yet decide to feature it. Press Number of UK national press and motoring journalists have been informed of this problem, but again due to relatively low numbers of this Porsche model, none has yet used the information. It has however been mentioned at least twice in the Porsche Club GBs magazine Trading Post. Porsche Clubs All known Porsche clubs from Finland to Australia have been advised of this issue by e-mail. |
