914-6 0-60 Timed Run May, 2003

I got out my homemade ignition pulse data logger again and tried to see how fast the 914-6 really is (or isn't). The following chart is a screen capture of a run. Others were very similar. Sorry for the large size, but with the fonts used it really can't be any smaller and readable.

As you can see, it was 8.4 seconds for 0-60 mph. The start of capture is from a switch on the floor under the clutch, adjusted to trip when lifted a very small amount. The box records RPM with extreme accuracy, but the variances you see in the points are from having a traditional distributor which moves due to the weights. Twenty points are recorded per second. You can tell I didn't exactly redline it and dump the clutch, don't want to beat the car. I shifted quickly but hey this is a tail-shifter.

Note that you need to go into third with this tire size. With stock diameter you can make it to 60 (barely) in second, which would shave off a bunch of time.

Conditions are important for this type of thing, so here's my list of all that should be important:
Stock 914-6
Tar removed
Spare tire removed
Carb mods: 30mm venturi, 120 main jet, 906 secondaries
Stock timing 35 degrees
Tires: 205/55/15 Wheels 5.5x15 Fuchs
Top on
Fuel: ~3/8, 87 octane
Driver weight: 180
Temp: ~70F
Redline 6300RPM
Stock heat exchangers and muffler
Stock intake box and filter, horn cut off shorter
Oil warmed up
