964 Engine Types

There are 3 basic engines used in the non-Turbo 964's:
  • M64/01
  • M64/02
  • M64/03

The 964 engines were the first produced by Porsche which were the same for all markets, worldwide. The M64/01 is used with manual transmissions, the M64/02 with Tiptronic transmissions, and the M64/03 was used in the Carrera RS. The Carrera RS engine produced slightly more horsepower (260 hp) than the standard M64 engine (247 hp).  C2's and C4's use the same M64/01 engine with the manual transmission.
