Engine Sound Pad

(Written
Early Fall 2005)

A job that I have delayed for a year.  Shortly after I got the car, I bought a new Sound Mat from Pelican.  The 'stock' replacement one, not the aluminum foil one.  I finally got the time & energy to do it.

To replace just read Wayne's 101 for his thoughts.  You have to remove the whole airbox et al up to the black 90°.  And the heater fan & nozzles.  And the cruise module off to the left.  Then drape the engine with a cloth.

Clean as much of the old orange glue as you are able or willing.  Without an engine drop, it is a major PITA.  It looks like rust in photos.  But . . . do whatever.

Then dry fit the new pad.  Again not easy but doable.  Drape the pad down on the engine, keeping the bottom part jammed in (not tough).  You only really need glue at the top on the horizontal portion.  I gooped my chosen adhesive on this section & sprayed it with the 3M Spray adhesive to hold it in place while the other gooped adhesive cured.

It worked well & looks much better.

But I guess I should do something about that fan . . .
