Seized Fuel Pump

(Written
Late Summer 2005)

It was a nice summer day . . . the car was running really well . . . until . . . it died.  I was running low on fuel but still nicely above the bottom mark.  And the warning light had not come on.  On an on ramp to a highway, the engine quit & would not restart.  A quick cell call & 10 liters of fuel appeared.

To no avail.

So I flat-bedded the car home . . .

Certainly a humble return.  And a $145 towing bill.

So I checked the usual . . .

Spark.
Fuel pump fuse.
DME relay.  Even though it checked out fine (according to the Bentley), I bought another & replaced it.

Still nothing.

Following the Bentley checks, I fashioned a DME jumper to test the fuel pump.  When energized, it thunked, but did not pump fuel.  So, a $223 contribution was made to the Pelican Parts site & I got a new fuel pump.

It is a really simple replacement.  Just follow the instructions in the Bentley - remove rock shield, disconnect battery, clamp flex hose from tank etc etc.  For further instructions see Pelican Tech Article.

Now it works again.
