Watkings Glen Club Race Preparation
I like to race my Porsche. PCA puts on Club Races. There will be a race
at Watkins Glen, NY in June. Sounds perfect to me. So I registered for
the event. It is now the beginning of June and it's time to start preparing
for the event.
Here is a list of things that have to get done before the race
(before I even leave my driveway):
Car:
-
Get corner balanced, ride height set, and aligned - done by Chris Manfredi
at Lynmor Motors, Inc (81 West Hills Road, Huntington Station NY 631 421-1133).
I picked the car up on 6/8.
-
Perform complete tech inspection
-
Install new radio system for driver - crew chief communication (wire harness
for car with Push To Talk [PTT] switch, in- helmet speakers and mic)
-
Wash - must look pretty for the club race
-
Put numbers on
-
Load 4 empty fuel jugs in car
RV:
-
Wash inside and outside
-
Wash linens (it's nice to sleep on clean sheets)
-
Turn on fridge and stock with food and drink (lots of drink)
-
Check air pressure in RV and trailer tires
-
Load all tools, track gear, etc. in RV
Misc:
-
Pack clothes for 5 days
-
Take rain wheels / tires (stock wheels w/RE 71 tires) and driver ed wheels
/ tires (BBS w/ BFG G Farce R1) out of shed. Wash outside and inside. Load
on trailer tire rack
-
Connect RV to trailer and park in front of house
-
Load car on trailer and tie down
This all takes about 2 solid days of work. Since I have a life outside
of racing, and I can't devote two complete days to this, it takes the better
part of a week. I finished everything about 11:00PM on Monday. Tuesday
I drove the entire rig to work, and I was on the LIE at about 2:00 PM Tuesday.
This time the trip was uneventful, and I was in Watkins Glen at 8:15 PM.
Next up was a two day driver ed event with Metro NY PCA.
