RUNNING REPORT 8
BACKGROUND:
- A common habit of mine is to check on
the mileage of the car on a regular basis, and though quite forgetful, I
noticed that the mileage did not appear to have moved that much over a
period of one week (unusual for a daily driven car!).
- Upon closer inspection, it was
confirmed that the mileage counter had not moved at all, and had probably
not done so for over a week.
WORK DONE:
- After speaking to my service centre
and confirming that the odometer could not be fixed, it was decided that I
would rely on my trip meter to clock my mileage for me (given that I never
use the trip meter for any other purpose). Lets just hope no one
inadvertently resets the trip meter when I am away from the car!!)
No matter how much driving is
done, my car's mileage is destined to stay at 66,698km!
- This has essentially saved me from
spending over SGD500 on a new odometer which would count from zero again.
- In light of the money
"saved", I managed to rationalise spending some money on the
Techart bypass Cup pipe (replaces the primary original muffler). Advantages
from this change would be limited to pure aural stimulation and negligible
power gains. The installation was a quick 30 minute job that merely involved
the unclamping and removal of the original muffler (bottom left picture),
with the installation of the straight through cup style Techart pipe.
Overall sound from the exhaust is now raspier, but without the excessive
"booming" when the engine is under strain in higher gears (a big
problem with the Mille Miglia exhaust that I used to have on my previous
Carrera 3.2).
POST SERVICE SYNOPSIS:
- the exhaust adds more excitement to
my Sunday morning drives, although there is a noticeable backfire when
changing from 1st gear to 2nd gear at high revs.
