RUNNING REPORT 7
BACKGROUND:
- The pesky oil leak mentioned in
Running Report 6, whilst not critical, when combined with a fan belt warning
light on my dash, bothered me sufficiently to book the
car in on 20 May, 2000.
- With regards to the leak, for those
of you unsure as to where to spot the leak, look for a bolt like item under
the RHS side skirt near the rear tire (see picture below). Once the oil leak
becomes more evident, the bolt will usually be covered by oil, dripping onto
the floor in a slow but steady manner.
WORK DONE:
- Without going into details, the
required hoses and associated clamps were changed after I handed over SGD700.
Note the "bolt" which is
now dry thanks to the replacement of the oil pipe from the filter housing to the
thermostat.
-
The warning light on
the dash was the result of the breakage of the belt tensioner which
correspondingly proceeded to shred the various belts it was designed to
place tension upon.
-
The item, together with
the various belts were replaced.
New belt tensioner in place- also
note the new belts!!
POST SERVICE SYNOPSIS:
- Oil leak has disappeared and the car
(as far as I know), is now almost completely oil leak free (not bad for a 10
year old 964)!!!
- Oh yes, no more warning lights- for
the moment.
