With regards to the twin distributor, the mechanics confirmed that the necessary updates had already been done to the vehicle. This essentially comprised the addition of a "breather" tube that allowed the damaging gases (that apparently cause the belt failure) to escape (see below picture). Note that this modification is absolutely essential to all early 964's as the failure of the belt could ultimately result in complete engine failure.
Possibly the single most important modification to any early 964 is the piping that appears in white above, and joins to the T joint- minimises the potential for the distributor belt to break.
