Aluminum Sump Extension

In a neverending quest for cool, I fabricated an Aluminum sump extension, commonly called a "tuna can". I have had one of these for 15 years and it worked to eliminate the occasional oil starvation when negotiating long, hard turns. But it was made of steel which doesn't conduct heat very well. So I made a replacement out of Aluminum and added a few fins on the side to help with cooling.

After all these changes, I again tested the oil temperature. Using my "standard" 28 mile @ 70 MPH test protocol, the ambient temperature was 80 degrees F and the oil temperature was 190 degrees F...a rise of 110 above ambient. This is about 32 degrees F better than when I started the "cool" quest. Only a tiny bit of this improvement is due to the new sump extension.
