My Cars
2 Porsches in Driveway (18.3kb) Porsches are my love. I've had one since 1968, when I bought the first mechanically injected 1969 911S in TX. Currently I have 2...a 1972 911S and a 1973 914. My friend, Mike Cool says to include some personal info. My name is Charles Davis...usually go by "Charlie" in spite of my "chuxter" moniker. I'm a retired engineer and a 30+ year PCA member. We built the strange house in the background (built...plus designed). It took 4+ years during which time the Porsches had to just sit. The house is sort-of finished now, so I'm finally getting back to the car hobby.
I've been autocrossing again these past few years.  :-)) Here is a recent picture (by Kevin Hardison) of me and #37 in action...
I'm the second owner of the 911, which I bought in 1974. The first owner bought the car in Germany and had several custom mods done by the factory. For example, there are no "P-O-R-S-C-H-E" letters on the engine lid...not filled in, either...the holes were never drilled in the lid. It was ordered that way from the factory. I've done a lot of work on the  911...rebuilt the engine as a 2.8L, rebuilt transmission with taller 1st gear, steel factory RS flares, black BBS modular rims, Scheel seats, 914-6GT steering wheel, fiberglass RS front spoiler, Porsche (Repa) rally seat belts (with custom electrically controlled retractors), custom 6 speaker sound system with custom amplifiers. I repainted the whole car many years ago (the original black) and plan to do it again soon. She's  named "Voodoo". She's been all over the country. I autocrossed & time trialed her for years. Voodoo is now retired from competition... mostly a garage queen now, waiting for a 2nd restoration.
I'm the 3rd (I think) owner of the '73 914. I also repainted the 914 (the original green). It's a stock 2.0 with FI...the only changes are corduroy seat inserts, 4-point racing seat belts, belt bar, Bilstein shocks, stiffer springs, and lowered. He's named "Zambezi" after the green color...lucky that it's not a '75, as I'd have to call him "Hunter", as the factory called the same color "Hunter Green" in '75. Like most 914s, this one had quite a bit of rust when I got it. I looked carefully and knew where some of it was, but after I bought it, I found LOTS more...sound familiar to you 914 owners? I replaced the outer longitudinals and jack points. Had to rebuild the latch area on one of the doors. Fixed the rust on the outer skin of the roll (targa?) bar. There were also some rust spots in the front trunk, where the 2nd owner had stowed his scuba gear after use in the ocean (who says CA cars don't have rust!). I replaced the battery tray (before it collapsed). While we were checking the '87 Parade course for safety, I broke the L rear suspension console...where the arm attaches near the center of the car. The R side is the normal one to fail, but it seems solid! I had to fabricate a replacement and weld it in. I've recently been lowering the car and aligning it. Previously, it had a stock suspension and adjustments. I added 110# rear springs and 21mm front torsion bars. I want to keep it as stock as possible and still be sort-of competitive in local autocrosses and time trials.
Here are some more shots of the cars...
