Explaining
The Gate Shift Kit, cont'd Page 3 of
3 wwOkay,
what's so different between competing products and mine?
Many provide a spring-loaded feature, and that alone is
enough reason to have either product for one's peace of
mine. However, other than the price margin, I also wanted to
improve upon what they offer. Here's what it is. wwLooking
at the top of the factory shift housing, there are two
angled tabs sticking out to the right of the shift lever.
Besides helping to define the 5th/Rev shift path, the gate
arm on the shift lever rests on these tabs and relieve
spring pressure while in 5th or Rev. This relieves spring
tension from acting on the shift lever and everything
connected to it inside the gearbox. There is no such
mechanism on the competition's spring-loaded shifter for 1st
and 2nd gears. The Gate Shift kit provides mirror-image gate
tabs and a gate arm for 1st and 2nd gears. wwMirroring
the factory tabs for 5th/Rev., the Gate Shift tabs for
1st/2nd gear relieve spring pressure from affecting the
entire mechanism from the shift lever to the internal shift
selector mechanisms. Without the tabs, the constant gate
spring pressure may cause some noise and perhaps a degree of
abnormal wear. Some users of the competitor's shifter report
internal vibration attributed to the spring-loaded shifter
(noise goes away when moving the lever to the untensioned,
3-4 gate). The Gate Shift tabs provide a "rest area" to
relieve any spring-tension induced wear inside the
gearbox. Summary: -
