Having too much time
on my hands one day, I decided to remove some weight by
drilling the rear deck lid hinges. Here are the steps and
the results. |
|||||||
The stock factory deck lid hings were stripped of paint. The holes were laid out using a fine-tip permanent marker and circle template. A real machinist would use dykem blue and a scribe. (Click for larger image) |

Layout marks were center punched, then drilled with a pilot drill. The holes were enlarged with a step drill (most holes approx. 1/4", some holes 3/8"). A real machinist would use a mlling machine and metric drills. |
|||||||
All holes drilled, then deburred. The step drill is effective in removing burrs using the next step size. |
|||||||
Deburred, wire brushed, cleaned; ready for finishing. The hinges were sprayed with a no gloss clear finish..for now |
