Hershey Swap Meet
April 21, 2001

The Hershey Swap Meet seemed like the perfect opportunity to look for an extra set of wheels for my Boxster.  My wife and I decided to drive over to Hershey on Friday night, spend the night in Hershey, and get up early to go to the swap meet on Saturday.  The swap meet opens at 7:30 am and we got there a little after 8:00.  I figured it would be the perfect chance to look for wheels before it got crowed.  We searched the entire vendor area about four or five times and finally decided on a set of take-off wheels from a vendor from Baltimore.  The wheels looked pretty good and I got them for a little less than what dealers have been charging for take off wheels.

Once the wheel purchase was final and the wheels were safely in my wife's Jetta, we decided to look around some more.  The weather was beautiful and there were lots of cars and parts to look at.  The number of Porsche cars there was incredible.  There was an area marked off for Porsche parking only.  There were some really cool cars parked there.  Every thing from 914’s, to 944’s, to 911’s, to new 996 turbos.  There must have been just about at least one of everything.  We even saw a couple of PCA Club racers drive their full race cars in.  In addition to the Porsche only parking area, there was a special section for a concours.  The cars would be judged and awarded prizes.  That area also had some really cool cars.  We did not stick around to see who won because we ended up leaving the swap meet around 10:00 am.  We wanted to go to the Hershey Chocolate Factory and still get back to Akron at a reasonable time on Saturday evening.

The Hershey Swap Meet was a great experience.  I think if I go back I would want to drive my Porsche and park it in the special parking area for Porsches.  I would also probably stay a little longer and look at more cars.  There were just so many cars to look at.  I recommend going to a Hershey Swap Meet if the opportunity arises.  It was a good way to spend a Saturday.
