My 1995 993 Carrera Coupe

The car is a 1995 Carrera 993 Coupe that was built in April 1994. The color is Midnight Blue Metallic with a cashmere interior. I believe the car was delivered at the factory in Germany, driven a bit, then imported to the US. I purchased the car in November of 2004 with 109,000 miles on it.

This photo was taken at a rest stop just south of Portland, OR

I found the car listed on the national PCA website and was located in Walnut Creek, CA. This started a week's worth of email messages, some digital photos, carfax checks and phone calls.

I decided to purchase the car, and bought a one-way ticket to Oakland 3 days ahead of the Friday I was going to fly down to Oakland. I found out this gets you the "special" search at the airport, due to our new security measures. The owner met me at the airport in one of his Range Rovers, very nice guy and we had a good conversation on the way to his office/shop where the car was.

After a quick check of the car, we drove to a small shop that is run by some friends of his. We put the car up in the air so I could check the car out. It all seemed to be in pretty good shape, only found 2 burned out brake lights. The owner had picked up some used rear tires from Parts Heaven, as he knew I was going to drive it 800 miles home and he didn't think the ones on the car were up to the task. The deal included an Autopower roll bar, but we couldn't find a good way to put it in the car, so it was shipped home.

So, we traded checks for signed titles and I headed north. I couldn't figure out how to get a CD into the head unit, until I called some friends and was able to put my reading glasses on to see the small buttons. Then, the cruise control wouldn't set, so I drove all the way home without it. Come to find out the clutch pedal wouldn't return all the way, and wouldn't allow the cruise to set. Just needed some lubrication. I was able to pass a number of cars/trucks going up the Siskiyou mountains.

The car ran like a top, but I decided to stop in Ashland, OR for the night. Up early the next morning (a little frost on the windshield, but no snow) and was home by 2:30 Saturday afternoon.

This photo was taken near my house. It shows the stock ride height.

This photo was taken near my house. It shows the new ride height and new aero parts.

The new ride height is courtesy of the H&R coilover kit that I installed. See the related page here.

The aero bits are fiberglass parts from MA Shaw, a 3.8 RS wing, with adjustable carbon fiber wing, and Euro RS front splitters. I had them painted at a local shop near my office and installed it all myself.

Another look at the new ride height and rear wing.

This shows the OMP sport seats that I had installed by Fordahl Motorsports. They were able to fabricate some custom brackets that lower the seats almost to the floor.

This, along with the seat dimensions themselves, all my 6'5" body to sit in the car with my helmet on!

This is a view of the car with the AutoPower roll bar installed. I had to cut some of the interior piece that covers the rear wheel wells, so that the bar could be bolted through there. I hope to cover this up with some carpet when I can find some that matches the interior.

I couldn't resist this. Although I now find that they make a 993 logo also.

I picked up a set of these 18" Sport Classic II wheels from a PCA member in New York. I found them through an ad on the PCA website, made a few emails and phone calls. The Brown truck showed up just before Thanksgiving 2005 and I was able to put them on that morning.

I found these tips on EBay after a comment was made on the Rennlist forums. The seem to be well constructed, shine up well even after a track day and are in much better shape than the original ones.
