The car is a 1987 911 Carrera Targa that was built in October 1986. The color is Silver Metallic with a black interior. I purchased the car in June of 1995 with 103,000 miles on it. As of November 2001, it has 131,000 miles.
Around 113,000 miles, I had the upper end rebuilt, which included all new valve guides, 3 angle valve grind along with geting the cams reground. Now it will really only burn oil when I am at the racetrack. This photo was taken just east of Snoqualmie Pass in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State. |
| We have taken the car on some interesting trips. This photo was taken on the way to Whistler Mountain in British Columbia for the club weekend there. Running on the road at 75-80mph, it will get around 25 mpg. Of course, at the track it gets about 11.
The car has 7x16 and 8x16 Fuchs with polished rims running AVS Intermediates for street tires. Not shown are some 7x16 and 9x17 Rial wheels with polished rims running Toyo Proxes RA-1s for track tires. |

This photo was taken on the way back from the 2000 Porsche Parade in Sacremento. Somewhere in the background is Mount Shasta. The long suffering Mrs. Dowd actually rode 2000 miles with the Corbeau seats and single in-dual out B&B muffler and didn't complain much. |
| A much better shot of Mount Shasta on the way back from the Parade. The car has been lowered and runs Bilstein HD shocks. I added Turbo Tie Rods and a Racing Dynamics strut bar, but other than that the suspension is stock. I am planning on adding a larger roll bar in the back and one of the new bump steer kits this winter.
I added the rear wing, a fiberglass version with an OEM rubber lip. I painted it myself (twice, to get the right finish and paint color). I also added the front lip, to match the back one for aerodynamic reasons. |

The steering wheel is a Momo Corse with an additional 1/2inch spacer added to bring the wheel out a bit. The seats are actually black, but this digital camera seems to make it a little purple.
The fire extiguisher is a halon unit that I got in the group buy of a while back. Also included is a Brey-Krause extinguisher mount that I modified so that it would not extend so far into the cabin area. I am 6'5",so I've moved the seats back as far as I can (even mounted in the "optional" mounting holes) |
| The seats are Corbeau A4s in black fabric. Not the most expensive seats, but the are fairly comfortable and work well at the track. The harness bar is a Brey Krause model, with M&H 5 point harnesses (I know they are attached incorrectly in this photo, but were just put in for the photo). There is a full width carpet covering the rear seats that makes it into a nice package shelf as my 18 year daughter no longer fits back there. | ![]() |

The engine is a stock 3.2 liter, with a drilled airbox, K&N filter and an Autothority chip installed in the DME. I put new plug wires in about 2 years ago, about the same time I removed the A/C. Living in Seattle with a Targa, I decided that I didn't need the non-working A/C, so I spent a weekend removing all the bits. Makes working on it a little easier! |
