1992 964 RS
The RS was a road going evolution of the 964 Cup cars developed in the early 1990’s for Porsche’s one make racing series. The road going RS was introduced in three versions, the basic sports model, a more luxurious touring version, and a stripped out club sport model which came as standard with a welded in roll cage but without interior trim. This car is a German supplied basic sports model imported into the UK in 1997.
Back in 1992 these cars were priced at nearly £9000 more than a regular Carrera 2, this was no cosmetic marketing exercise. Specification includes,
- lowered and stiffened suspension
- seam welded chassis
- quicker steering rack with the deletion of power steering
- re-chipped/higher output engine
- magnesium 17" "cup" wheels
- more powerful turbo ventilated brakes
- revised close ratio gearbox
- limited slip differential
- one piece lightened flywheel.
The basic sports model weighs just over 1200 kgs by the removal of most of the non-essential electrical components. Weight saving measures include;
- the removal of most interior trim
- lightweight fixed leather Recaro racing seats.
- Removal of sound-proofing
- lightweight carpets and door panels.
- removal of the underseal
- thinner glass.
Power output was 260bhp at 6100rpm and 325Nm at 4800rpm. 0 - 62 mph arrived in 5.3 seconds, top speed is just over 160 mph. A total of 2,051 cars were built.
The car is finished in Guards Red with Black trim and triple magenta Recaro seats. Over the last year the car has been maintained and improved regardless of cost to an exceptional standard and offers an opportunity to purchase probably one of the best sorted 964 RS's available in the UK. I promise this car will not disappoint!
It's completely standard (retaining the rare and expensive17" magnesium cup wheels with excellent Michelin Pilots all round) and un-modified except for a Cat bypass and mild Roock ECU chip boosting power to 270 bhp, making this a very quick and exciting 911!
