First, all the '85 on gearboxes aren't 2.20, as of '89 they are 2.64 (or GT 2.72.) with a clsoer layshaft ratio with fifth gear. Secondly, it's possible to fit your older gearbox with a European part and get the 2.72 ring & pinion value. Because of the better synchromesh design of the later box, I'd recommend that. So you could put in a european '85 and newer gearbox (2.64 ratio in most cases) or an '89 or newer USA gearbox (2.64 for S4 or 2.72 for GT.) The limited slip should be interchangeable for any 928 gearbox 84-89, by the way. Hope that lays out your choices more completely. Kim Crumb
