I pulled the boot up and the screw holes were all cracked and partly missing. My PO had had it recovered in a nice red leather and I wanted to keep it. I used some glue on the plastic fragments and also put a small hose clamp around it and tightened it up. The boot hides the clamp pretty well and the shifter is solid now. They say the replacement shift handles at Pep Boys work..... Not only does it work perfectly, but looks and feels much better than the original wimpy 928 A/T shift handle. wk -----Original Message----- From: Michael [mailto:michael@thepatio.net] Sent: Wednesday, September 06, 2000 1:32 AM To: 928 Subject: [928] re: selector lever >I've got a question about my selector lever: >The knob of my lever is loose, it can be twisted without moving the >lever itself, can it be fixed or is a new lever needed? Vincent, If you're referring to the shift handle of an automatic, push the boot down and closely examine the collar at the lower part of the handle. If it is cracked (which is VERY common) you will really need to replace it for a permanent fix. You can attempt to tighten the screw-bolts but be careful or you may crack both sides. My shifter handle is cracked on one side but by using two nuts on each bolt (as lock nuts) I can get a very solid fit that lasts for nearly a year before requiring re-tightening. I know that eventually it will give up the ghost. - michael 1988 928 S4 A/T RMB -> Daily Driver see at...
