Joe, early phone dials can be repainted easily by yourself.  Several
companies sell a paint that is comparable to the look of the original
finish.  I used Griot's Garage wheel refinishing paint.  The kit comes
with wheel cleaner, primer, paint, and clear coat.  About $70 as I
remember, results were pretty decent.  I can't recall the name brand of
the other paint that some have used, but a search of the archives may
help.  The tires were removed before I painted the wheels, several coats
did the trick and they look 100% better.  Check for Griot's on the
internet, you can get a free catalog of all their stuff mailed to you.
