If Porsche had thought that the 928 would have been practical to develop as a race platform, they would have used it. They seldom (if ever) miss an opportunity to develop/field a production based race car, whether as an "official" factory effort, or a privateer. Good job in digging up the info. Best always, Dave ========================= |And now the rest of the story. I talked with non other than Bob Snodgrass |of Brumos today to find out more about the Daytona 24 hour 928. He said |that 928 came from the factory with an aluminum chassis (!) for the |Daytona race. He said that they changed the front brakes twice, the rear |brakes once and topped it with oil every other pit stop. The car ran |without incident and he gave the same finishing figures as the ones below. | A credit to his memory. He also said that the drivers were within a |tenth of a second from each other which meant that it was a "slow" car. |He said that it just weighed too much and that was why the 928 does not |make a good race car. He went on to say that same 928 was shipped back to |Germany where it raced in a pro race circuit for awhile before being |crashed and totaled. He said that it no longer exists. | |Of other interest to Mark Kibort, he said that he has the second Al |Holbert 928 that was used as an FIA safety car in his collection. He said |that it is red in color and the one that Mark K. has was damaged on a race |track when it was also an FIA safety car. Mr. Snodgrass was truly a |pleasure to talk to and very gracious in answering my questions since I |just called out of the blue to ask about the Daytona 928. | |Best regards, |Constantine |1989 928S4, AT |1986.5 928S, AT |Rennlist member |928 Forum subscriber | |> H everybody, |> |> Here's a message I've had from Hurley Haywood, regarding the 1984 24 Hours |> race: |> "The factory gave Brumos a light weight 928 to run the 1984 Daytona race. |> The drivers were Howard Meister,Bob Hagstad,Vic Elford and Richard Atwood. |> Car started 72th overall, 30th in class and finished 15th overall and 4th |> in class." |> |> I would like to find pictures of this car. |> I've only have a very small one and need others to make a model of it. |> I would also like to know where this car is now... |> |> Samuel
