No, Ive spent only $9-10k even to date on the car. Sure, ive had sponsor help in areas that werent absolutely needed, but did make the car very nice. Ive just recently totaled all the costs. Also remember that I did have a shop do a lot of the things I could have done, but wanted to make sure I didnt miss anything. (timing belt, waterpump, limited slip, front shocks/springs change over, and headers as well as the clutch conversion to 79-84,and flappy fix and weld swaybar mount.) Now, even counting this, the cost to me was around 8k, and that includes a paintjob, and all new cage, and lots of nick nacks. Sure, one of my sponsors was University Autobody, who along with my nightly help, did a fantastic job in a quicky paint job and interior coverup. Retail, this would have been $6000 easy. The point is, you dont need this to make the S4 to race. you probably dont even need clutch conversion either. So, at a base cost of 9,000 and 9k for the basic race conversion items, and the list is pretty short. Then, another $1-2k if you want to take the next steps to get it from 2850lbs down to 2700lbs. 8k is made up from $2500 header and exhaust installed. (and you dont really need to spend this much) $150 fuel reg $400 seat $140 belts $1400 cage with net $3000 wheels and tires $1500 suspension installed (old front springs used in rear, new front eibachs, and bilstiens all the way around)$500 swaybar $150 rear droplinks $100 alignement at Wheel works set at a mild 1.4/1.9 degrees camber front/R Thats it!! Now, Im not saying it will be as nice as the holbert car, or will have some of my personal touches that didnt cost me anything. but, as long as you get a limited slip, S4 in decent shape, you are looking at a supercar on the track for less than $20k, and that is unheard of by any other manufacturer or model of porsche. the above is street pricing, and i did have help from many folks, including this 928LIST. Thanks all!!! The holbert car is off to SCCA ITE this weekend at Laguna.
