While drag racing yesterday, I had a fello Porsche owner racing his mid 80's non turbo 911 Carrera Cabriolet with a factory turbo body. Now, I expected the Carrera to be a zippy little car. A friend of mine just sold his 85 Carrera and I would have swore that his 85 would have dusted my 87 in the 1/4 mile if he had a good launch. Therfore, I thought this Carrera would be comparable to my 928. Nope, either this dude could'nt drive the thing or this 911 was tired. His first run was in the low 16's, second was even worse, his final run was finally in the high 15's (i bevieve I saw 15.8.) No matter what the time was he was only hitting about 85 MPH. As for me and my 928. Well, I was disappointed with the cars performance. My best run was a 14.8 @ 93.3 MPH. I raced a late 70's Corvette first. He pulled a 14.7 and I hit 14.8. Next, I raced an ugly ass hay-bail haulin 1960's Dodge or Chevy truck... OOOOH! I got spanked. He hit a 14.5 and I hit a 14.9. This was the first time I've been embarassed, because this thing was a supreme ugly mobile. Lastly I raced another late 70's Vette. with a elderly woman driver. Welp, I got beat again. She pulled a 14.7 and I pulled another 14.9. These were my worst times to date. I have yet to beat my best run of 14.6. It feels as if power drops once the tranny shifts into 3rd. Maybe the flappy isnt acuating when the RPMs drop down to 4000 or so. I managed to get 15 runs in and did better than I thought I would. The first run was bad because I had no idea how to stage, launch or were to stop. My speed was faster in the 1/8th mile than the 1/4 mile. I still managed a 14.7 on that run. I red lighted once. I was beat by a big block Olds 442 a few times and a couple of 'stangs with slicks. But I did beat a few including a Dodge Dakota (it meant a lot to me) a cobra mustang (it had the cobra on the fenders)and an '85 stang. My best time was 14.29 @ 100.030mph. The best speed for me was 100.333. I know I can get more out of it. The car is an '87 S4 with a custom exhaust and a cat bypass. I know I need a tune up and headers would probaly help. Anybody interested in going to Kinston, Nc next friday for some more testing. Nobody seems to know what a 928 is. The announcer made my day when he said " The 'stang in the left lane is about to get spanked again by the Porsche" I NEED MORE SPEED!! Any hints on how to get more?? Mike
