You could replace that unit with some kind of random 12v pulse generator and achieve the same result. But seriously, why not leave some of those check lights intact? (oil pressure& level, brake fluid pressure & level, water level, temp, etc). I 'blocked off' the brake pad warning and a few others, but retained almost all of the warning lights for engine related stuff, it all works as designed, and is integrated with the fuse panel so be careful what you rip out, could be more hassle than what it is worth (for the 4lbs)!
