today was a very bad day. After posting a 13.9 this past weekend I thought
I was unstopable. Today on the way home from work on Rt 70 in NC I ended 
up behing a Camaro. It was a black SS with LS1 on the back. I stayed 
behind him for awhile until I had an opening. I dropped it to third and 
passed him. I was suprised when the light ahead changed to red. We ended 
up next to each other in the front. Light changed and I took an early lead
while he went up in tire smoke. 

..Can we say Gearing?

By second he was next to me and at third 
gear he was gone. I THINK I NEED NITROUS! I don't know what those things 
run in the 1/4 mile but it really pulled hard and left me very embarassed.

....Well. He has a 5.7 two valve that has a nice cam that pulls to 6k. He 
has SIX speeds to your Five. He has a what, 3.73 OR A 3.42 rear ratio with 
an SS? You have a 2.20? YOu have a 3500 pound German Hammer, and he has an 
3200 pound American Switch Blade. You'll loose to, I don't know, 80mph, and 
the your gone. Just keep your foot in it.

....Think of it this way - if you had 5.7 liters and the same engine design 
as you do now, then you would have been more even. If you had 5.7 liters, 
32 valves, and a rear end ratio like his, you would have trounced him - you 
would have been driving a Zr-1. Ha. Anyway, go find who that is, Stroke 
your S4, and then beat his A** in with your evening of the score. I have an 
89S4, and the reason I got an 89 (other than the fact it was flawless) was 
because of the better rear end ratio (2.54?). Better off the line pull.

...Those SS's are cool very cool. But remember this as well - live rear 
axle. Macpherson (sic) struts in front. The brakes have a heating pattern 
that is SCARY. Stop from 120 three times? Braking, Braking, Braking, - NO 
BRAKING UGHOOHHH. Also you just have a cooler car. Do you like your 
fillings in your teath? Stick with the S4. Do you like being thought of as 
a wife beater? Drive an SS.


And to think, I thought I was ready to take on a C5 vette....

...C5? More power, better gearing, but they took the 928 form (front 
engine, rear trans,  torque tube). Nice car. Check out the Z06 for 50k, you 
can have a Transam racer for the street.

Hmm, 50k. I invest 25k in my S4, and I could beat that car. Same 50k, but a 
whole different world.
