Let me give you a timesaving tip which may eliminate the need to pull the sender.. Remove the tank cover under the carpet and find the 3 wire connector on the sender. On mine, the 3 wires are marked [*W* yellow wire for the low fuel light] [*G* purple wire for float level sender] [*t* Brown ground] remove the connector and jump the float level G (purple) to the ground (T Brown). Turn the key to energize the gauges and the gauge should show full. If it doesn't (mine only goes to 7/8), the problem is not the sender, it's either resistence in the wiring, connectors, guage flex PCB, or the gauge itself. If you are going to pull the sender, a large pair of channel locks and a shop rag or rubber strip will loosen the cap. It is plastic, so you want to be carefull not to deform it. When getting the cap back on, I had to lube the threads because the cap wanted to bind and cross-thread on the tank. Snug is fine, your'e compressing a rubber gasket and you don't want to torgue the hell out of a plastic cap. If you dissassemble the sender, you will see the float riding on two wires. Clean the wires and float contacts. They are delicate, so be careful. You will see the contact for the low fuel light at the bottom of the assy, the float drops down and takes the switch to ground.
