FYI..Car stranded me in the Vons parking lot on Sunday. The injectors were pulsing immediately upon turning the key (apparently a tell tale sign..i don't wish it on any of you). The car appeared to be running fine up to that point. Shut it off, went inside, came out not 10mins later and she was dead. VERDICT...The LH brain was toast (thanks to those that responded). I bought a recon. one from www.928intl.com had it fedexed out yesterday....here today....and drag raced at "The Strip" -Las Vegas Motor Speedway this evening!! more on that in a sec : ) FYI...All this is hind sight now but i thought my brain had died almost instantly in the parking lot at some point, but now as i look back on a few things, it may have been a slower chain of events. 1. For a several months prior, the car would start immediately but would have a lower than normal idle for a few seconds and would hunt (+-100-200rpm) for a few seconds until it figured it out... after that it was fine. 2. The car under hard acceleration and load had an almost pulsing sensation in the upper power band above appx 3500rpm...VERY VERY FAINT but it was definitely there. 3 I had installed an Air Fuel meter about a week ago and the meter would hunt around the middle readings perfectly at constant cruise rpm...but under either slight acceleration or WOT acceleration the engine would instantly go lean and many times MAX LEAN! The car still felt fairly strong though. INSTALL NEW BRAINS............. I swear I have a completely different car now. The car starts and idle is stable . While driving, the AF meter still hunts in the center of the meter but seems to do so along a narrower band and "centers" out much quicker. Slight accelerations now show a split second towards the lean direction then she richens up a bit then hovers around the middle again. Hard FULL WOT accelerations show a similar thing ...instantly to lean/max lean then almost as instantly to the richer side of the meter. If WOT isn't quite reached it sits and hunts right around the center. (prior to the new brain it would be LEAN all the time) This little air fuel meter is a cool little gadget actually, very helpful. Long story short..i don't think my car has ever run this good since ive owned it.! It just feels snappy'r and pulls harder. Now to the track!! I got the new brains in at 5pm and went straight to the track for 6pm. It was one of those Import /street muscle events and my FIRST time doing such a thing, with ANY car. WHAT A BLAST...I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IT!! this is a break down of my runs, i only did 3, left to right(was running short on time) I hope the justification of the data is fine? R/T.......1.276 .815 1.529 (reaction time) 60 ft.....2.365 2.819 2.654 330ft.....6.494 7.020 6.777 1/8mi.....9.666 10.201 9.959 mph.......78.02 78.05 77.79 1000ft....12.377 12.906 12.685 1/4mi.....14.702 15.223 15.038 MPH.......96.67 96.87 95.07 I think i did ok?? beat all 3 cars i raced... a gutted turbo street racer civic, a turbo eclipse and a late 80's turbo 300zx. They all got me off the line but it was EASY to reel them in. My best run was the first one i think. I got the car to launch pretty well also. One foot on the brake and one on the gas (sounds like a Sammy Hagar song to me)...loaded up the driveline a bit..and a way she went! The last 2 runs a had quite a bit of wheel spin initially though. FYI..It was about 80'F...appx 3000ft elev. this weekend hopefully (if i don't get called to work) my first autocross. Shark ownership has always been fun...but ringing her out in a controlled-safe environment with no cops is a riot and peace of mind! I was the only Porsche there and PROUD to be have 928! Tony 87s4 Auto..no longer a track virgin!
