At idle (675 +/- 25) rpm - timing should be 10 At 3000 rpm - timing should be ~ 34. There are several items to impact the timing as you may already well know - knock sensors, Hall Sensor (87 & up), and the Final Stages Output to just name a few. I checked my timing with a timing light to see if there was any shifting/issues - and didn't identify any deviations from the specs listed. HTH- Jay '87 S4 Auto
