Ok mine now solved "it'll crank but it won't start" On particularly hot days my 86S would shut down without warning. I checked the ignition (EZF) relay, the fuel pump relay and the injection relays, although VERY hot they all function great. I suspected an overheated fuel pump it checked out as well. I suspected the ingnition switch but it seemed solid. Looking over the schematics I found an 'interupt' switch from the alarm that appears just before the (EZF) ignition relay. When the alarm trips (or fails due to heat exhaustion) the switch opens and the car dies. The power to the alarm switch is connector B#23 (a thin black w/red stripe wire) the return power shows up on connector F#25 ( a thick yellow wire). bridge these two together and the alarm cannot kill you. I think my '78 takes the cake in this department. The fuel pump on the 928 will only run when the relay receives a signal from the ECU that the engine is running. The pump will also run for two seconds when you hit the starter. Thus, the pump should not be running when the ignition switch is on. There should be a two-second burst each time that you hit the starter. > > > So I twisted the key, and the car fired right up, no grinding away, no > > > pedal. There are three relays that must be activated for the '87 to run: Relay X (which is in position IV, not X - X is the name of the bus) EZK Relay (position XVI) Fuel Pump Relay (position XX) LH-Jetronic Relay - (position XXV) All of these relays are functionally identical, and interchangeable. More importantly, they are functionally interchangeable with: Defroster Relay (position VIII) Fan Relay (position X) Starter Relay (position XIV) Backup Lamp Relay (position XXII) This allows you to swap relays on the road to get home, and also allows you to swap relays temporarily for trouble-shooting. If the problem is not a relay, write again, again giving full details, and we will try to come up with some other ideas. Wally Plumley 928 Specialists
