It is a second windshield wash system, sharing only the check valves (inside the back edge of the hood - they sometimes stick) and nozzles with the standard system. The system is designed to apply a measured quantity of the special Porsche intensive wash fluid (P/N 928.628.931.00, $20.00 for about a liter). This fluid quickly and effectively removes road film and silicone from the windshield. It is PFM on a rainy night with heavy traffic. The fluid usually evaporates before it is used up - plugging the vent hole (tape, RTV) helps prevent this. Most 928 owners don't bother with the system, perhaps because many of them don't enjoy driving in conditions where it is useful. >2. The hood (bonnet) shocks need replacing (ouch - ask me how I worked that >out), but I don't know if the rear ones need doing. Should the trunk open >when the release is activated, or do they all need a bit of help to get >started? The hatch shocks help lift the hatch, and should reliably hold it up, but you have to lift the hatch. Same with the hood. Hood shocks (P/N 928.511.139.03) are $22.50 each for Genuine Porsche, or $9.99 each for the essentially identical OEM unit that everyone buys. Hatch shocks (P/N 928.512.331.05) are the same price. Note that these are NOT the same. If you put hood shocks on the hatch, they won't hold it up, and if you put hatch shocks on the hood, you will bend the hood trying to close it! >3. The left mirror only goes up and down sometimes. How do I dismantle the >housing to tighten bolts/check for broken bits? The mirror glass just snaps out, and can be removed with reasonable caution. >4. Should the door check straps hold the door open? Mine don't! This is a common problem with high mileage. Replacing the door checks (P/N 928.537.033.04, $23.01 each) requires removing the door trim panel. Instructions are on the Owners Club web site. There are several WYAITs (While You Are In There) for this job, such as checking and lubing all of the window and latch mechanisms, checking the felt window supports, etc. >Thanks for any advice received. >Ian You're welcome.
