Interior - Center Console

Disclaimer: your 928 interior may be hacked differently than mine and contain more or less screws, bolts, clips, and various other parts.

  1. Move seats to rear most position.

  2. Raise steering wheel/pod to upper most position.

  3. Disconnect the battery ground strap (in rear hatch).

  4. Remove the passenger storage shelf.

  5. Remove the three bolts on the glovebox hinge (just above the storage shelf) and remove the door.

  6. Remove the two screws at the top of the glovebox, and the two screws holding the latch.

  7. Disconnect the pushbutton switch for the glovebox light.

    glovebox liner

  8. Pull glovebox liner out, disconnect the "Bier-kühler" a/c hose, and remove liner.

  9. Remove the HVAC duct.

  10. Remove the accelerator kick panel and the side carpet panels from the center console. There is one screw at the rear, and zero to three other screws near the front.

  11. Disconnect the wiring for the driver's window switch.

  12. Remove your radio and hope you don't find a snake pit of a PO's hack wiring harness like mine.

  13. Pull the center vent grill straight out.

  14. Carefully pry out the "H" bezel surrounding the a/c head.

  15. Remove the six screws surrounding the a/c head and information module.

  16. Pull out the a/c head and info module together.

  17. Disconnect the wiring. The a/c head on the driver's side has a multi-pin plug and an edge connector. The info module has a connector behind the a/c button, and two flat cable connectors on the passenger side.

  19. Remove the two bolts at the top of the console inside the center vent.

  20. Remove the console bolt inside the glovebox.

  21. Remove the shifter. For the A/T: pull the rubber boot up, remove the two side screws, and pull the handle straight up.

  22. At this point you can work the console out and lay it over to the passenger side. For complete removal, disconnect the wiring for everything else - passenger window, sunroof, hatch wiper, interior temp sensor, clock, rear A/C controls, lighter, ashtray bulb.
