Steve's Rennlist announcement to the 928 List that prompted such a quick response from me.  Do you think anyone has ever sold a car as quickly?

Subject: [928] 83 S for sale

Well I've made my final decision and my 83 is going up for sale. I posted
the possibility last week but now its for sure. I'm deep into building a
house and just don't have the time these days to work on the car. Here are
the details:

MY 83 5sp. Kiln Red (rust copper color) over black leather. I got it in
trade when I sold my S4 about 1 1/2 years ago. I intended to restore it and
use it for weekends, autocross etc..

The good stuff:

89K original miles. Clean title, carfax etc. Southern (Florida) car.

Upgraded to Borg Warner style 5sp out of an '85 car with LSD. Bought from
928 International. Mark certified it as "as new". He did a visual as well
as installing it in a car and testing it. Works great - HUGE improvement
over the early boxes and known for durability. This alone cost $2500 and
they are hard to get without a core to return; meaning the early trannys are
not an acceptable core. To buy a rebuilt Borg Warner for your early car
today from 928 Intl would cost $2795 + core = $3795!!! I don't know if that
would include the LSD or not. It is filled with Swepco. Front shifter ball
and rear coupler were replaced with new parts when trans was installed.

Car runs great. Starts right up every time. Runs cool and strong. Flushed
cooling system earlier this year and refilled with extended life coolant.

New timing belt and water pump. Retensioned after about 500 miles. (I own
the Porsche tensioner). Rebuilt tensioner and filled with 90wt oil.
Replaced oil pump sprocket, rollers, and all seals on front of the engine.

S4 wheels and tires (off my old S4). Wheels in good shape; tires are Dunlop
D40 M2 w/ maybe 5K left on them.

S4 8" headlights (no dated looking chrome trim). Makes a big difference to
the looks of the car IMO.

Running test pipe with new oxygen sensor. Air pump is removed and a short
belt is used to drive cooling fan. I have the cat and the air pump in
perfect working order to go with the car but it sounds great the way it is.
(Bwaaaaahhhhhh)

All glass is perfect - no scratches, chips etc. 1/4 windows and rear window
are tinted.

Restored most of the interior:

- New black carpet everywhere.
- New black floor mats with red "928S" lettering from 928 Specialists last
year.
- Rebuilt gauge pod w/ speedo overhaul/calibration, new PCB board, new bulbs
etc.
- Used early style power seats. Dyed black from brown using Surflex
products. Look great. Driver's seat has a bulge in seat cushion but
neither show any wear. I intended to give them one or two more coats with
the surflex so they will last and there are a few spots that need coating.
- Remainder of seating surfaces died black. Intended to do door panels etc
but haven't gotten around to it yet.
- Door panels and one interior 1/4 panel are in great shape but dash and
left rear interior 1/4 panel need help.
- New sunroof underpanel (the part you see inside the car).
- Rebuilt climate control panel from 928 Intl.
- Tested and fixed any problems in the vacuum system for climate control
operation. All functional now.
- Sony CD player installed by PO. Fits right, works well. New speakers by
PO as well. I believe Sony but I'd have to look. Nothing extravagant here
but a good system and good looking install.
- Everything power inside the car works fine. (Windows, locks, mirrors,
seats...)

Now the bad stuff:

Car needs paint. Clear coat is peeling. Paint estimates I've gotten are
$1-2K depending on how much prep you do yourself. I intended to go with
original color.
Front left fender has a minor dent - easily repaired; not a replacement
issue.
Left door was replaced by me due to a dent. I have the original door as
well; looks like it was kicked. The door on there now is red but in perfect
shape.
Front spoiler is damaged. May be salvageable but not sure.
Oil pan seeps. Not enough to notice between 6 month oil changes but some
oil collects on the bottom of the pan. I use Mobil 1.

I can verify all of the above and I have receipts for over $5K in the last
year or so. The PO said the following was true but I can't substantiate it:

New torque tube and steering rack. Both seem to work fine but I don't have
any receipts for those.

I am looking for $5K not negotiable. I've got about $8K in it. It will go
on Ebay probably tomorrow for $4500 no reserve and I'll post when it does.
Just the transmission and engine are worth close to that. This is a
cosmetically challenged car that is excellent mechanical shape and could
easily be brought to beautiful with some paint and a little work for $1-2K.
If you know how to paint, it would be a great car! Would also make a great
race/drivers ed car as is.

I will answer any questions you might have. I'll have pictures to go with
the ebay ad tomorrow. I'd be happy to let anyone drive it, inspect it etc
if you are interested.

Sorry so long and thanks for your interest.

Sad to see her go but she won't be my last I'm sure...
