Air Conditioner UpgradesThe air conditioner was upgraded by replacing the rear condensor, evaporator/fan, and receiver/drier with those from a Carrera (and of course, there is the 964 A/C compressor). These units were improved over the SC units by the use of o-ring connections instead of the flare connections. In addition, the Carrera rear condensor used a double-pass configuration rather than a single-pass. The Carrera evaporator used a triple-pass configuration instead of the SC double-pass configuration. New barrier hoses from Griffiths were installed; all the old leaky hoses have been replaced. Now a charge of freon lasts from one year to the next. A bulkhead vent with adjustable louvers was added to increase airflow and air movement across the evaporator core, and an indicator light was added at the temperature control to monitor when the compressor is actually running. |
